Cleaning is an integral component of virtually all instrument reprocessing procedures. Ultrasonic energy is an effective technology routinely used by healthcare facilities to clean surgical instruments prior to terminal sterilization. To enhance the efficient transmission of waves of ultrasonic energy, soiled instruments must be immersed in an appropriate liquid medium, such as a detergent solution.
